MILITANT group Bayan Muna bagged the top spot among all the party-list organizations participating in the May 13 midterm polls, according to the latest Pulse Asia survey released on Thursday.
Bayan Muna, one of the groups tagged by the military on the supposed “Red October” plot to oust President Rodrigo Duterte, is the most preferred party-list group, with an 8.50 percent voter preference in the Pulse Asia survey from March 23 to 27.
Magsasaka sa Sakahan, Kaunlaran came in the second with 6.45 percent voter preference while Gabriela Women’s party was third with 6.04 percent.
Ako Bicol Poltical Party and Advocacy for Teacher Empowerment Through Action Cooperation and Harmony Towards Educational Reform completed the first five with 4.72 percent voter preference and 4.58 percent, respectively.
Pulse Asia said the five party-list groups “each garner the ceiling of three seats” following the procedure for allocating the maximum number of 59 seats.
Of the 134 party-list groups accredited by the Commission on Elections (Comelec), Pulse Asia said 14 of them could get at least one seat in the House of Representatives.
The 14 party-list groups secured more than 2 percent support from the voters with party-list group preference, the polling firm said.
The party-list groups which are also likely to get a seat in the House are Coalition of Association of Senior Citizens in the Philippines, Inc., Buhay Hayaan Yumabong, Akbayan Citizens Action Party, Anak Mindanao, An Waray, Kalinga-Advocacy for Social Empowerment and Nation-building Through Easing Poverty, Inc., Anakpawis, Citizens’ Battle Against Corruption, and Angkla: Ang Partido ng mga Pilipinong Marino, Inc.
Meanwhile, the same survey showed about three-quarters of Filipino registered voters or 74 percent have heard, read, or watched something about the party-list system.
The figure is much higher than February’s 61 percent, the polling firm said.
Pulse Asia said majority awareness was recorded in all geographic areas and socio-economic classes.
“Awareness is more marked in Metro Manila (74 percent), the rest of Luzon (79 percent), and Mindanao (77 percent) than in the Visayas (57 percent), and in Class ABC than Class E (86 percent versus 62 percent),” it said.
“Between February and March, awareness of the party-list system becomes more manifest not only at the national level (+13 percentage points) but also in the rest of Luzon (+12 percentage points), the Visayas (+30 percentage points), Class D (+13 percentage points), and Class E (+16 percentage points),” the polling firm added.
The survey among 1,800 representative adults nationwide had a ±2.3 percent error margin at the 95 percent confidence level.
The error margins at 95 percent confidence level are ±6.5 percent for Metro Manila, ±3.5 percent for the rest of Luzon, ±5.3 percent for Visayas, and ±4.7 percent for Mindanao.
