POWER supply in some areas in Samar struck by the 6.5-magnitude earthquake has been restored, the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) said.
The red alert for areas covered by the Samar Electric Cooperative, Inc. 1 (Samelco 1) was lifted at 6 p.m., the agency said in an advisory on Tuesday.
The Visayas grid, however, remains on red alert as restoration of power in other parts of Eastern Samar, covered by Eastern Samar Electric Cooperative, Inc. (Esamelco), is ongoing.
The red alert for the Luzon grid was lowered to yellow until 10 p.m.
Available capacity is at 10,643 megawatts (MW) while peak demand is at 9,222 MW.
The NGCP considers a grid on red alert when there is zero ancillary service (AS) or a high power deficiency.
A yellow alert signals that power reserves have dropped below the minimum 647 MW. LISBET K. ESMAEL
