MANILA, Philippines — After banning all provincial buses, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will sharpen its fangs on city buses plying along the stretch of Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (Edsa).

But no, MMDA will not ban the city buses — only “discipline” them.

“We will not ban city buses. But we will enforce and put the right loading and unloading zone and will put fence along Edsa,” Garcia told INQUIRER.net in a text message.

By putting up a fence, buses will be forced not to stop anywhere they want, Garcia noted.

He also said that the agency hopes to implement this policy along the 23.8-kilometer highway within the next few months of the year.

The MMDA is currently having a dry run on provincial bus ban entering Metro Manila to ease traffic congestion in the region.

According to Celine Pialago, MMDA spokesperson, provincial buses make up three to five percent of the total volume of vehicles along Edsa.

When asked for data on the percentage effect of city buses using Edsa, Garcia said: “I’m sure mas more ang city buses.” /je
