HAVE you seen “Alive”, the movie? The plane chartered by Uruguayan rugby team players and their supporters for a match in Chile crashed in the Andes mountains. The initial survivors had meager rations and struggled in freezing temperatures. After 72 days of hunger, cold, loneliness, and fear, 16 survivors were rescued.

Our own difficulties are probably not as extreme as those of the crash victims. If there’s one thing we can learn from seeing the struggles of other people, we realize how small and shallow our problems are. Sometimes we realize that they are not real problems. We just overthink and worry too much.

Avoid them. Train your mind to see what is good and beautiful as you deal with your problems. Sing in the rain. Trevor Driggers says, “Life won’t always give us what we want; bad things do happen. But they help us appreciate the good when we have it. It’s what gives the good its value, the contrast with the bad. So make the best of things, and cherish the good when you get it”.

Be patient when troubles come. God is definitely bigger than your problems. Enjoy happy events and situations. Create them! Seize worthwhile opportunities. Spend more time with your loved ones. Do what you love! Use your physical strength and mental sharpness before they decline.

Happiness does not come to those who merely wait and wonder. Life is what you make it. Enjoy!
