Record-high heat index hits Metro Manila anew— Pagasa

METRO Manila hit a record-high heat index or level of human discomfort on Sunday, the state weather bureau said.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) registered a heat index of 38 degrees Celsius (C) at 2 p.m. at the Science Garden weather station in Diliman, Quezon City, resulting from a temperature of 35.6C and 39 percent relative humidity.
It has reached the “extreme caution” level between 32C and 41C but still short of the highest recorded heat index of 40.8 on April 13, which resulted from a temperature of 35.9 C and a relative humidity of 44.89 percent.
A higher heat index was recorded at 49.6 C in Dagupan City, Pangasinan, which resulted from a 34.5 C temperature and 72 percent humidity at 2 p.m. This is still lower than the 51.7C in Dagupan City, Pangasinan on April 9.
Danger levels of were also recorded at Tayabas, Quezon at 47.3 C; Sangley Point, Cavite at 46.2 C Ambulong, Batangas at 45.4 C; San Jose City, Occidental Mindoro at 44.3 C; Aparri, Cagayan at 44.2 C; Daet, Camarines Norte at 42.9 C Casiguran, Aurora and Cuyo, Palawan at 42.8; Dipolog, Zamboanga Del Norte at 42.2; Tuguegarao, Cagayan at 42.0; Virac, Catanduanes at 41.9 C; Guiuan, Eastern Samar at 41.5 C Calapan, and Oriental Mindoro at 41.3 C.
Pagasa advised against outdoor activities between 12 noon and 4 p.m. Sun protection, light-colored clothes and keeping hydrated by drinking lots of water are also advised.
