HEAT indexes in 15 areas across the country reached “danger” levels on Saturday, the state weather bureau said.

The highest heat index or highest level of human discomfort was recorded in Dagupan City, Pangasinan at 47.6 degrees Celcius (C), resulting from a temperature of 35.5 C and relative humidity of 62 percent at 2 p.m., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Sunday.

The figure, however, is still lower than the highest registered heat index during the dry season of 51.7 C also in Dagupan City, Pangasinan on April 9.

Pagasa also recorded danger levels of heat indexes in Aparri, Cagayan at 43.9C; Sangley Point, Cavite at 43.8C; Tuguegarao, Cagayan at 42.9C; Cotabato City, Maguindanao at 42.8C; Cuyo, Palawan at 42.7C; San Jose City, Occidental Mindoro at 42.3C; Ambulong in Batangas, Masin in Southern Leyte, and Roxas City in Capiz at 42.2 C; Virac, Catanduanes at 42.0C; Calapan, Oriental Mindoro at 41.8 C; Casiguran, Aurora at 41.7 C; Tayabas City, Quezon at 41.4 C; and Infanta, Quezon at. 41.3 C.

Metro Manila’s 38.1C heat index at the Science Garden weather station in Diliman, Quezon City has been categorized as “extreme caution,” falling within 32C to 41C.

Pagasa said the “danger” heat indexes from 41C to 54C would “likely” cause heat cramps and heat exhaustion and “probable” heat stroke with continuous activity.

Pagasa advised against outdoor activities from 12 noon to 4 p.m.
