A light flyweight from Koronadal City created ripples in the opening of the Asian Boxing Championships on Friday by posting a dominant win over an Iranian rival in Bangkok, Thailand.
Ramel Macado, 23, tagged Ahmadisafa Omid with various combinations to the head and body on the way to a convincing 4-1 win over Ahmadisafa Omid.
Pulling off a thriller of a win was Cagayan de Oro’s Marvin Tolentino.
Tolentino engaged 2017 SEA Games flyweight gold medalist Aldoms Suguro of Indonesia in a furious exchange of heavy blows but the CdO pride came out victorious, 3-2.
Not fortunate were Sugar Ray Ocana and veteran Nesthy Petecio suffered stinging defeats to their respective Japanese rivals.
Ocana suffered a bloody gash over his right eyebrow in an accidental clash of heads with Daisuke Narimatsu and the Japanese was declared winner by Referee Stopped Contest due to injury (RSC-I).
Petecio, on the other hand, absorbed a 3-2 defeat to 2018 world youth championships bronze medalist Irie Sena.
