LOOK: Pilgrims disrespect Antipolo Church with piles of garbage

MANILA, Philippines — Piles of trash from pilgrims who attended this year’s Alay Lakad were left behind around the Cathedral of Antipolo and netizens were furious about this inappropriate discipline, more so displayed during the Holy Week.

Photos shared by Facebook user Kae Rivera showed different items, such as empty water bottles, food wrappers, plastic bags, styrofoam cups, paper plates and other utensils scattered on the steps leading to the doors of Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage Church in Antipolo City.

Rivera slammed the pilgrims who left behind their garbage on Thursday night, asking them to respect the place of worship.

“Sa mga lumalahok po sa Alay Lakad sa Antipolo. Hindi po isang malaking basurahan ang aming simbahan,” Rivera said in his post.

“Kung wala po pag tatapunan itago muna ang iyong kalat at itapon sa tama. Sana naman po bigyan nyo po ng respeto ang tahanan ng ating Diyos,” he added.

The Alay Lakad has been a tradition among Filipino Catholics during the Holy Week.  Devotees walk more than 11 kilometers of uphill roads, passing by different Stations of the Cross on the way to the cathedral. /jpv
