BJMP acting chief leads inspection of jails on Holy Week

MANILA, Philippines — Acting Bureau of Jail director, Chief Supt. Allan Iral, led the officials of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in conducting inspections of jail facilities as the agency observes full alert status during Holy Week.

Iral held a dialogue with BJMP officials, reiterating the directive of Interior Secretary Eduardo Año that jails should be free of illegal drugs and good governance should be observed in jail premises being managed by BJMP.
“Marami dyan walang trabaho. Mabuti nga kayo at nasa marangal na propesyon. Tinaasan pa tayo ng sweldo ng gobyerno. Kaya ang pakiusap ko sa inyo, huwag na kayong gumawa ng hindi maganda lalo na ang mainvolve sa ilegal na droga,” said Iral in a press statement on Friday.
“There are so many challenges confronting us but with your support and cooperation, we can do more and we can do better in achieving the bureau’s vision as a government institution,” he added.
According to BJMP, Iral had visited Valenzuela City Jail Male and Female Dormitories, Navotas City Jail, Caloocan City Jail Male and Female Dormitories, Manila City Jail Male and Female Dormitories, Quezon City Jail Male Dormitory, and the jails located within the Bicutan Complex.
During his visit to Manila City Jail Male Dormitory, the acting BJMP chief also awarded certificate of commendations to Senior Jail Officer 2 Rogelio Domagas and Jail Officer Manny Dela Cruz, who prevented a detainee from an attempt to escape on April 6.
As he awarded the certificates, Iral said that all personnel who made an accomplishment must be recognized.
“Like today, instead of you spending time for holiday, you are here to take care of our facilities and ensure that no [untoward] incident will happen. And, I would like to thank you for that,” he said. /jpv
