Guiuan, E. Samar sizzles as heat index soars to 49.2 degrees Celsius

MANILA, Philippines – The heat index on Maundy Thursday skyrocketed to 49.2 degrees Celcius in Guiuan, Eastern Samar, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
Pagasa said the heat index is the “apparent temperature or what humans perceive or feel as the temperature affecting the body.”
A heat index of 41°C or higher is considered dangerous and poses serious health risks.
Aside from Guiuan, 15 other areas in the country reported a heat above 41 degrees Celsius on Thursday, including Ambulong, Batangas (45.8 degrees); Daet, Camarines Norte (44.6 degrees); Dagupan City, Pangasinan (44.5 degrees); Sangley Point, Cavite (44.4 degrees) and Pasay City, Metro Manila (43.2 degrees).

- Casiguran, Aurora (42.4 degrees)
- Masbate City, Masbate (42. 2 degrees)
- Clark Airport, Pampanga (42.1 degrees)
- Tayabas City, Quezon 41.8 degrees)
- Butuan City, Agusan del Norte (41.6 degrees)
- Port Area, Manila (41.4 degrees)
- Dipolog, Zamboanga del Norte (41.4 degrees)
- Calapan, Oriental Mindoro (41.3 degrees)
- Legaspi City, Albay (41.2 degrees)
- Roxas City, Cadiz (41.1 degrees)
