CEBU CITY – The 43-year-old man who admitted killing Christine Lee Silawan was formally charged before the Lapu-Lapu City Prosecutor’s Office.
A murder complaint was filed against Renato Llenes last Tuesday in a second case that was filed in relation to the gruesome murder of the 16-year-old girl.
A separate murder complaint was earlier filed against the former boyfriend of Silawan, whose body was found in a vacant lot in Barangay Bankal, Lapu-Lapu last March 11.
The teenager was arrested by agents of the National Bureau of Investigation in Central Visayas (NBI 7), while it was the police who arrested Llenes.
While the teenager denied involvement in the crime, LLenes, whom police said is a drug pusher and user, admitted killing the girl the first time they met last March 10.
The Lapu-Lapu City Police Office (LLCPO), headed by Police Col. Limuel Obon, acted as the complainant in the case filed against Llenes after Silawan’s parents refused to sign the affidavit-complaint.
The girl’s parents had insisted to include their daughter’s ex-boyfriend in the charge sheet.
Police Brig. Gen. Debold Sinas, chief of the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO 7), turned down the parents’ demand, saying what they have are pieces of evidence against Llenes only.
Aside from his extra-judicial confession, police were also able to prove that Llenes owned the three Facebook accounts that he used to communicate with Silawan.
When the victim’s parents refused to sign the complaint, Sinas said the police can act as the complainant since “it is a crime against the society.” (Calvin Cordova)
