BoC intercepts packages with P2-M illegal drugs

The Bureau of Customs (BoC) said on Wednesday its agents assigned at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) intercepted five different packages containing P2 million worth of illegal drugs.
According to BoC-NAIA, the packages from various warehouses in Pasay City were seized after they were found containing shabu, ecstasy, marijuana, and cocaine.
BoC said the agents found an outbound parcel containing 0.027 kilograms of shabu concealed inside an envelope from a certain J.C Crisostomo of Marilao, Bulacan. This was supposed to be sent to Abraham Salas Jr. of Bahrain.
The second parcel confiscated by Customs agents contained 0.54 kilograms of ecstasy hidden inside a printer that originated from the Netherlands. It was estimated to have a value of P1.7 million.
According to the BoC, the ecstasy was consigned to a certain Cristian Chan of San Juan, Metro Manila.
Also confiscated were two shipments of marijuana, which were declared as pancake mix and lotion from the United States. BoC identified its consignee as Steven Marple of Antique and Betty Lu of LCG Marketing in Cagayan de Oro.
BoC said it also intercepted 0.0135 kilograms of cocaine from the U.S. This was declared as toys and consigned to Jose Maristela of Makati City.
These drug apprehensions were profiled by customs examiners, x-rayed and coordinated with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.
The BoC turned over the illegal drugs to PDEA on Wednesday at the NAIA Customhouse in Pasay City.
During the first quarter of the year, BoC-NAIA had carried out nine drug seizures as part of the government’s anti-drug campaign.
The latest interception ramped up the NAIA port’s total haul to an unprecedented 39 drug busts since 2018. These were worth P370 million and turned over to PDEA.
The 17 BoC ports have been exercising extra vigilance over all coasts and seas to prevent the entry of illegal drugs and other contraband items in Philippine borders. (Raymund F. Antonio)
