THE Philippine Embassy in Libya is set to repatriate today the first seven of 20 Filipinos who sought repatriation as armed conflict in Tripoli worsened.
“We will repatriate first seven Filipinos in a few hours,” Chargés d’Affairs and head of mission Elmer Cato told The Manila Times.
Cato also reported that one Filipino was slightly wounded in a rocket attack in Tripoli on Tuesday night.
At least 19 Filipinos out of the 1,000 Filipinos in Tripoli have availed of the voluntary repatriation offer of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).
Cato said the unidentified Filipino was wounded when he was “just about to take a nap.” He added, “One of the rockets blew off the windows of his quarters and he was slightly wounded in the forehead by glass shard, if I was not mistaken.”
“We have one Filipino wounded in the forehead. He now wants to go home. We hope that our kabayaban in Tripoli would now realize the danger we have been warning to them and would ask us to bring them home,” Cato said on Twitter.
Replying to Cato’s tweet, Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. said, “Let just get him home. And thanks for letting our people know. They will make their own decisions because no one else is qualified to make decisions for them but when they say even at the very last minute they wanna go, we go in and get them. No drama, just duty.”
In his Facebook post, Cato said, “In view of the rocket barrage that struck residential areas in Tripoli, the embassy reiterated its appeal for our kababayan (fellowmen) to consider themselves and their dependents repatriated as soon as possible while we still have a window to lead you to safety. ”
He said four people have been killed and 23 wounded in the rocket strikes that were felt by Filipinos in various parts of Tripoli.
