A Chinese man died after jumping from the fifth level of a public hospital in Sta. Cruz, Manila, in the wee hours of Tuesday, allegedly after killing his girlfriend and her brother.
Police Master Sgt. Jorlan Taluban, investigator on case, identified the fatality as Qiu Shaojie, about 36 to 40 years old.
Roving barangay watchmen saw him slashing his forearms with an unidentified material past 3 a.m. on Rizal Avenue corner Remigio Street in Sta. Cruz district. He was brought to Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center for treatment.
However, while he was at the emergency room, he ran away and went up to the building’s terrace on the fifth floor.
From there, he jumped off the building but instead of hitting the ground, he fell on the scaffolding installed at the hospital’s façade. A doctor pronounced him dead at 6:58 a.m.
Prior to his death, Shaojie and his girlfriend, only known as Ivy, had a heated argument at the latter’s unit at Gaisano Tower last night.
“The female Chinese victim wants to call it quits with the suspect,” said Police Master Sgt. Jansen Rey San Pedro.
San Pedro said Shaojie apparently did not agree with Ivy’s decision, which led him to shoot her as well as her brother in the head.
The bloodied bodies of the victims were discovered at around 12:30 a.m. by Shirong Huang, a business partner of Ivy.
Huang told the police that Ivy told him about the fight.
When he reviewed the closed-circuit television (CCTV) recording with the authorities, he positively identified Shaojie as the suspect.
San Pedro said they are still establishing the full identities of the victims. (Ria Fernandez)
