ON February 2018, De Los Santos Medical Center (DLSMC), a member of Manuel V. Pangilinan’s MVP Group of Companies under the Metro Pacific Hospital Holdings Inc. (MPHHI) banner, launched brand new state-of-the-art Catheterization Laboratory Unit. The Cath Lab at DLSMC was opened to help give more Filipinos access to cardiovascular diagnosis and treatments with experienced cardiologists and the latest technology at affordable rates.
Cardiovascular disease or CVD (disorders of the heart and blood vessels) remains one of the leading causes of deaths both in the Philippines and around the world. The most common CVD is coronary artery disease or heart disease. It is important for Filipinos to understand the importance of heart health, take the appropriate preventive measures, and have access to quality diagnosis and treatments.
“We launched our first Cath Lab last year to give Filipino patients quality health care at affordable rates,” shared Raul Pagdanganan, president and CEO of DLSMC. “By making these services more accessible, we hoped to reduce the number of Filipino fatalities due to heart diseases and positively impact the lives of our countrymen.”
To mark the Cath Lab’s first anniversary, DLSMC celebrated by giving back to the community. On February 14, the hospital, in partnership with charitable organizations, held a medical mission for seven pediatric patients to undergo cardiovascular catheter procedures free of charge.
“The mission is for indigent patients from a government hospital who are suffering from congenital heart diseases like Atrial Septal Defunct, Ventricular Septal Defect, and Patent Ductus Arteriosus,” Dr. Santos explained. “They all underwent device closure at the Cath Lab in lieu of surgery. For viable pediatric patients, catheter procedures are the best choice. They are faster, less painful, and the recovery time is quicker than open surgery. This mission is our way of giving back to the community, healing these young hearts, giving them a bright future ahead, and celebrating a milestone for the DLSMC Cath Lab.”
