The Bureau of Internal Revenue yesterday reminded individual and business taxpayers that they have until Monday, April 15, to submit their 2018 Income Tax Returns.

BIR Commissioner Caesar R. Dulay said the deadline will not be extended and penalties will be collected from late filers.

The penalties included 25 percent surcharge on the amount due, 12 percent annual interest, and the graduated compromise penalties.

The BIR chief and other top officials are scheduled to visit regional and district offices in Metro Manila to observe the last day of the yearly exercise.

Revenue officials are expecting the rush of last-minute filers like in previous years, many of whom could not be accommodated when the filing centers stop accepting manually filed ITRs at the end of 5 p.m. office hours.

However, online filers can send the returns up to 10 p.m.

Records showed the agency has more than 32 million individual, one million business, and 400,000 professional taxpayers.

Individual taxpayers receiving compensation or salary income are not required to submit returns as the chore is done for them by their employers.

The bureau is targeting to raise P2.3 trillion this year. (Jun Ramirez)
