Highest heat index in Metro Manila recorded at 40.8C — Pagasa

METRO Manila hit its highest heat index or human discomfort so far in 2019 when it hit 40.8 degrees Celsius (C) on Saturday, the state bureau said.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) recorded the heat index at
3p.m. at the Science Garden weather station in Diliman, Quezon City, resulting from a temperature of 35.9 C and a relative humidity of 44.89 percent.
Tuguegarao City, Cagayan registered the highest heat index on Saturday at 46.3 C, resulting from a 36.5 C temperature and 53.68 relative humidity. The highest recorded heat index in the country was at 51.7C in Dagupan City on April 10.
High heat indexes were also recorded in other areas of the country: Daet, Camarines Norte at 46.1 C; Ambulong, Batangas at 45.2 C; Dagupan City, Pangasinan at 45.1 C; Sangley Point, Cavite at 44.5 C; Casiguran, Aurora at 43.8; Cotabato City, Maguindanao at 43.7; San Jose, Occidental Mindoro at 42.7 C; Subic Bay, Olongapo City at 42.3 C; Dipolog, Zamboanga Del Norte at 41.6 C; and Laoag City, Ilocos Norte at 41.4 C.
Pagasa classifies heat index between 32C and 41C as “extreme caution” and 41C to 54C as “dangerous” because it could lead to
heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke with continuous activity.
Pagasa advised the public to avoid the outdoor heat from 12 noon to 4 p.m., use sun protection for outdoor activities and stay hydrated. DIVINA NOVA JOY DELA CRUZ
