THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) warned motorists to expect traffic jams in parts of Metro Manila, which would be closed over the weekend for road repairs.
In a separate advisory, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said the southbound lane of the 1stlane from the sidewalk of EDSA New York in Cubao before Monte de Piedad would be closed for reblocking and restoration starting 11 p.m. Friday until Monday morning.
The northbound lanes of the C5 Road in front of SM Aura in Taguig City and EDSA 50 meters after Magallanes Metro Rail Transit Station to KM 29 in Makati City will undergo repairs for the 5thstraight week.
The second lane of EDSA between White Plains Gate 4 will also be closed.
The MMDA advised motorists to avoid these areas and use alternate routes until all roads under repair would be passable by 5 a.m. on Monday.
The DPWH opened the Quirino Bridge 2 or the Concordia Bridge in Quirino Highway, Paco Manila to motorists on Thursday.
This improved the traffic flow along Manila, Pasay and Makati to the central and eastern side of Metro Manila, the MMDA said.
About 100,000 vehicles pass through the bridge.
“This is a great relief and it was perfectly timed for the upcoming Holy Week break which is expected to cause gridlocks,” DPWH Secretary Mark Villar said.
According to CCEC, construction works will be conducted on a kilometer stretch of NLEX Balintawak. This will affect traffic in Balintawak Cloverleaf, Camachile, and Bagong Barrio, including the east and west service roads.
The CCEC intends to complete the project by December this year. NEIL JAYSON N. SERVALLOS
