THE entire Luzon grid may experience unstable power supply for hours as the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) renewed its alerts in the region.

In its advisory, the country’s grid operator said the red alert was raised at 9 a.m. and would last until 10 p.m.

A yellow alert will be declared from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Peak demand is higher at 10,334 megawatts (MW) than the available capacity at 10,220 MW.

“Details on the cause to be announced by the Department of Energy (DOE) later in the day,” it added.

The NGCP defines red alert as a system condition when there is zero ancillary service (AS) or a generation deficiency exists.

A yellow alert is a system condition in which the reserves are less than the capacity of the biggest plant in Luzon. JORDEENE B. LAGARE
