A 61-year-old taxi driver allegedly involved in a series of robbery-holdup incidents was arrested on Wednesday after victimizing a Malaysian in Pasay City.
Police Lt. Col. Deanry Francisco, assistant chief of police for administration of the Pasay City Police, identified the suspect as Jose Sajul, a resident of GSIS Village Sangandaan, Quezon City.
Sajul was positively identified by his recent victim, Tze Chea Kon, 22, a Malaysian.
According to the report submitted to Southern Police District, Sajul was apprehended in a follow-up operation at around 3:30 p.m. at the corner of EDSA Extension and Sunrise Drive at MOA Complex, Pasay City.
Prior to his arrest, the suspect held up Kon at knife point inside his cab, taking her P6,000 cash.
After the incident, she managed to report the incident to the MOA Police Community Precinct that immediately conducted a hot pursuit operation.
Police arrested Sajul while he was fetching passengers. Recovered from him was a knife he used in his criminal activities.
Francisco said the suspect has been involved in a series of robbery-holdup incidents since last year. Most of his targets were foreign nationals.
Police learned that this was the second time Kon was held up inside a cab, but she did not report the first incident.
Francisco added that the suspect may be a part of a larger group operating in the area. (Dhel Nazario)
