Heat index may reach 38C in Metro Manila, Davao on Thursday — Pagasa

A continuous warm and humid weather is expected as heat index or the level of human discomfort may reach an “extreme caution” category in some parts of the country, including Metro Manila and Davao on Thursday, the state bureau said.
Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration’s forecast indicate that heat index in Metro Manila (Science Garden weather station) may reach range from 38.4 degrees Celcius (C) to 38.3C.
Other areas expected to experience high heat indexes are Cotabato City (39.3C), Butuan City (38.9C), Laoag (38.8C), Cavite (38.7C), General Santos City (38.5C), Iloilo City (38.4C), Aparri (38.3C), and NAIA, Port Area, Sinait, Ilocos Sur and Tacloban (38.1C).
None are expected to reach danger levels of 41C to 54C. On Wednesday, a record high heat index was registered at 51.7C in Dagupan City.
Weather specialist Cris Perez said that a heat index ranging from 32C to 41C would fall under the “extreme caution” category, which could possibly lead to heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke with continued activity, especially under the sun.
