Boy, 6, drowns in Tumana River

A six-year-old boy drowned while taking a dip in a river with his friends in Barangay Bagong Silangan, Quezon City, Monday afternoon.
Investigators of Quezon City Police District identified the victim as John Mark Rodriguez, a resident of Villamor Street, Barangay Bagong Silangan.
Police report showed that prior to the victim’s death, witness Susan Lumbis said she saw John Mark’s four friends in Tumana River at Tagumpay Village when she passed by the area around 3:30 p.m. Monday.
Around 8 a.m. Tuesday, Lorna Rodriguez, the victim’s grandmother, noticed that her grandson was still not home, prompting her to find the boy.
While searching, John Mark’s friends told her that they were playing with the victim in the river Monday afternoon but he suddenly disappeared.
Upon hearing this, the victim’s grandfather, Benjie Rejoso, rushed to the river where he saw John Mark ‘s body already floating in the water.
Rejoso sought assistance from authorities who helped him get the victim and rush him to East Avenue Medical Center where he was declared dead on arrival. (Alexandria San Juan)
