Police are hunting down the gunman who killed a 17-year-old girl whom he mistook for his drug client who failed to pay him in Tondo, Manila, last Sunday morning.
The suspect shot Ronalyn Cordero, 17, a vendor, while she was having a meal with her younger relative on Dayao Street in Barangay 129, Zone 11, at around 3:45 a.m. on April 7, according to police report.
The victim sustained a gunshot wound in the back. She was rushed to Tondo General Hospital where she later died.
Manila Police District (MPD) chief Police Brig. Gen. Vicente Danao, Jr. said the victim was mistakenly identified by the suspect (name withheld) as alias “Juana B” who owed him money for availing “shabu”.
“We learned that ‘Juana B’ bought drugs from the suspect but she did not return anymore. She did not pay. The gunman thought she was the victim as they have similarities — the same age and the same height,” he said.
The suspect’s lookout, Alfie Cubelo, 30, was arrested at 10 p.m. on the day of the incident. He underwent inquest proceedings at the City Prosecutor of Manila for illegal possession of deadly weapon in relation to the Omnibus Election Code. (Ria Fernandez)
