Gov’t ready for power shortage, says Palace

MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang assured that the government is ready for “whatever crisis we will have” after the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) placed the Luzon grid under red alert on Wednesday.
The red alert status or the probability of power outages in the grid has been declared for 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday and will again be enforced at 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
Meanwhile, a yellow alert status was raised at 10 a.m., from 12 noon to 1 p.m., followed by 5 p.m., and 7-9 pm.

“I’m sure the Energy Department will have responses to whatever crisis we will have,” Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said in a Palace briefing.
In a separate advisory, the Department of Energy (DoE) said the highest alert was declared because of the projected high demand and that certain power plants were either offline or not operating at full capacity.
According to the NGCP, a red alert status is declared when there is a zero ancillary service (AS), or a generation deficiency exists. /ee
