Highest heat index recorded in Dagupan City at 51.7C — Pagasa

THE highest heat index or indicator of human discomfort was recorded in Dagupan City, Pangasinan on Tuesday, the state bureau said.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) registered a heat index of 51.7 degrees Celcius (C) as a result of the combined effects of a 36.7C air temperature and 62 percent relative humidity at 2 p.m. on Tuesday. This is higher than the previous record of 48.2 also in Dagupan on April 3.
Pagasa weather specialist Beni Estareja said the heat index from 41C to 54C may be classified under the “danger” category where individuals may experience heat cramps and exhaustion that could lead to heat stroke.
Other areas that registered high heat indexes were Cuyo, Palawan at 46.2C; Calapan, Tuguegarao City, Cagayan at 43.5C; Oriental Mindoro and Daet, Camarines Norte at at 43.1C; Aparri, Cagayan at 43C; Sangley Point, Cavite at 42.7C; Catbalogan, Western Samar at 42.6; Baler, Aurora and Cotabato City, Maguindanao at 42.3C; NAIA, Pasay City at at 42C; Dipolog, Zamboanga Del Norte at 41.4C; Virac, Catanduanes at 41.2C; and Masbate City, Masbate at 41.1C.
Metro Manila’s representative heat index registered at the Science Garden in Diliman Quezon City was only at 37C as a result of 33.2C air temperature and 51 percent relative humidity.
Meanwhile, the highest temperature so far was registered at 38.0 in Echague, Isabela on April 7.
