FOR the first time this year, the Luzon grid will be placed on red alert today, Wednesday.
The National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) said the red alert would be up from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
“Details on the cause to be announced by the Department of Energy (DOE) later in the day,” the country’s grid operator said.
Available capacity is at 10,625 megawatts (MW) while peak demand is at 10,313 MW.
The NGCP defines red alert as a system condition when there is zero ancillary services (AS) or a generation deficiency exists.
