Heat index soars to 51.7 degrees Celsius in Dagupan City

MANILA, Philippines — Residents of Dagupan City in Pangasinan on Tuesday experienced the highest heat index so far this year at 51.7 degrees Celsius, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

The state weather bureau said the heat index in Dagupan City was reported around 2:00 p.m.

Aside from Dagupan City, several municipalities and cities in the country also reported a heat index above 41 degrees Celsius, which is considered a “danger” level.

Heat index in Cuyo, Palawan was reported at 46.2 degrees. It’s 43.5 degrees in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan; 43.1 degrees in Daet, Camarines Norte and Calapan, Oriental Mindoro; 43 degrees in Cagayan; 42.7 degrees in Sangley Point, Cavite; and 42.6 degrees in Catbalogan, Western Samar.

The heat index was also high in Baler, Aurora and Cotabato City, Maguindanao (42.3 degrees); Pasay City in Metro Manila (42 degrees); Dipolog, Zamboanga Del Norte (41.4 degrees); Virac, Catanduanes (41.2 degrees);  and Masbate City, Masbate (41.1 degrees).

Residents of areas considered in the “danger” level are likely to experience cramps and heat exhaustion while heat stroke is probable for individuals with continued activity.
