MANILA, Philippines — Two personnel of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) allegedly involved in illegal drugs were recommended to face summary dismissal proceedings, newly-designated BJMP officer-in-charge, Jail Chief Supt. Allan Iral said Tuesday.
“Kahapon may in-endorse po ako for dismissal [from] service kay Secretary DILG [Department of Interior and Local Government] Año na i-confirm niya yung dismissal from service ng personnel namin na involve sa illegal drugs. Dalawa po ‘yun,” Iral said in a press briefing at the BJMP headquarters in Quezon City.
The BJMP chief, however, did not disclose the names of the personnel as Interior Secretary Eduardo Año will have the final say on the matter.
“‘Pag na-confirm yun, outright dismissed from service,” Iral said.
With this, Iral noted they plan to conduct surprise drug tests among their personnel to check whether they are involved in illegal drugs.
“Meron kami na binabantayan, kaya ginawa natin mag-surprise drug tests para isang paraan kung totoo ba talaga na tuloy tuloy pa ang illegal drug [activities],” he said.
Iral said some of the BJMP officers are believed to be protecting inmates, or the so-called Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL), who are involved in illegal drugs even while in jail facilities.
“Nagpapasok sila ng droga, nagiging protektor sila. Meron silang tinitingnan na mga PDL o mga dalaw,” he said.
Meanwhile, some personnel were also caught during buy-bust operations conducted by police officers of Philippine National Police (PNP).
“Isa yan, yung mga nabuy-bust ng PNP kasi na-involve sa pagbebenta ng droga,” he said. /jpv
