De La Salle University made quick work of Adamson University, 25-15, 25-18, 25-16, to boost its Final Four bid in Season 81 University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) women’s volleyball on Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum.

Rookie spiker Jolina Dela Cruz and skipper Desiree Cheng powered the four-peat seeking Lady Spikers’ attack as they tightened their grip of No. 2 with their third straight win and eighth overall against three defeats.

Dela Cruz smashed a game-high 13 points anchored on nine kills, two blocks and two aces.

“This was a good game for us. Our practice paid off,” said Dela Cruz, who also notched 10 digs.

Cheng poured 11 markers highlighted by 10 spikes while fellow veterans Aduke Ogunsanya, Lourdes Clemente and Tin Tiamzon added nine, seven and six markers, respectively.

Sophomore setter Michelle Cobb orchestrated the Lady Spikers’ offense with 18 of the team’s 23 excellent sets.

“We had huge improvements in our blocking and service. The things we were trying to improve in our training came out in this game,” said Cobb.

Cobb stressed the importance of the win as La Salle heads to a crucial clash against archrival Ateneo De Manila University on Saturday, April 13.

Bern Flora and Trisha Genesis had seven points each for the eliminated Lady Falcons, who plummeted to 1-10.

League-leading Ateneo (9-1) is still gunning for the first Final Four spot against National University (3-7) at press time.

Earlier in the men’s side, reigning titlist National U inched closer to a twice-to-beat advantage after walloping La Salle, 25-20, 25-21, 25-16.

Bryan Bagunas posted 23 points on 21 attacks and two aces as the Final Four-bound Bulldogs solidified their hold of No. 1 with their 10th win against a lone loss.

The Green Spikers slid to the brink of elimination with a 4-7 sheet.

Far Eastern University clinched a semifinal slot with a 25-18, 25-19, 25-12 sweep of University of the East.

Jude Garcia and John Paul Bugaoan tallied 11 and 10 points, respectively, to carry the second-running Tamaraw Spikers to the Final Four with a 9-2 slate.

The also-ran Red Warriors fell to 2-9.
