LIBMANAN, Camarines Sur – A private jeepney carrying 20 passengers collided with a 10-wheel dump truck here Saturday afternoon, killing six occupants, including the driver and injuring 14 others.

Police Staff Sgt. Emerose Organis, information officer of the Libmanan Municipal Police Station, said the accident happened on the national highway in Barangay Bikal.

Organis identified five of the six victims as Jorge Montañez, driver of the private jeepney, and passengers Jhian Co, a minor; Marites A. Montañez, 53; and Sneizer Co, 9, all residents of Haluban, Lupi, Camarines Sur; and Abegail Jimeno, minor, of Lupi, Camarines Sur.

Organis said that the driver of the jeepney is believed to be under the influence of liquor when the accident happened.

She said the victims came from the Malinao Spring Resort in Libmanan and were returning home.

“Yung mga batang biktima ay estudyante. Napagkasunduan ata ng mga magulang na mag-swimming kasi bakasyon naman,” Organis said.

Noel Amot, 35, the truck driver and a resident of Magbaguin, Valenzuela City, was unharmed.

Initial investigation showed that the jeepney took the opposite lane, resulting in the head-on-collision. (Nino Luces)
