CHANCES are, you have found yourself in an embarrassing situation – wardrobe malfunction, saying something you shouldn’t have said while the microphone was still on, saying the wrong name or position when introducing an important person, walking in a public place and discovering that your fly is unzipped. The list can be endless.

The following tips will help you overcome an embarrassing incident.

Laugh it off. Who does not have bloopers, anyway? Who has not found himself in an awkward situation? Keep your sanity by not dealing with it seriously.

Forget about it. What’s the sense in thinking about an experience that only makes you feel bad? Besides, nobody thinks about your embarrassing experience all the time. Everybody has his own personal concerns.

Get busy. Immerse yourself in your tasks. Do something different, worthwhile, and exciting. If you keep yourself preoccupied, there is a little chance that you will recall anything that deserves to be forgotten.

Accept your imperfection. Human beings, although created in the image of a perfect God, are not infallible. J. M. Darhower said, “You can’t go back and change things once they’re done. You rewrite history. Dwelling on it, wondering what could’ve been different, wondering how things might be in a perfect world, is a waste of time. Because this world isn’t perfect, life isn’t perfect, and it never will be.”

Learn from your experience. What is it teaching you? Is there something that you could have done to avoid it? Consider how you can prevent a similar situation from happening in the future.

The embarrassing moments of famous and successful people did not hinder them from living happy and productive lives. They bounced back. So can you!
