NCR bakes at 35.4 degrees Celsius

Metro Manila experienced the hottest day of the year so far yesterday, when the actual air temperature reading reached 35.4 degrees Celsius, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration.
PAGASA said the air temperature of 35.4 degrees Celsius was recorded at the Science Garden monitoring station in Quezon City at around 3:50 p.m.
However, it felt like 37.2 degrees Celsius due to high humidity in the air, the weather bureau said.
With heat indices ranging from 32 to 41 degrees Celsius, PAGASA said “heat cramps and heat exhaustion are possible” and “continuing activity could result to heat stroke.”
PAGASA defines “heat index” as the “apparent” temperature or what human perceive or feel as the temperature affects their body. It is usually higher by at least two to three degrees Celsius than the actual air temperature.
Based on the PAGASA data, the highest temperature in Philippine history is 42.2 degrees Celsius, recorded in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan on May 11, 1969.
The hottest day in Metro Manila was 38.5 degrees Celsius recorded on May 14, 1987.
PAGASA said the warm and humid easterly winds will prevail throughout the whole country today. (Ellalyn V. Ruiz)
