MARAWI CITY: The clamor for Gen. Eduardo del Rosario to resign as head of Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM) for causing the sufferings of internally displaced persons (IDPs) here gained ground as more sectors joined the call.
Lanao del Sur Second District Rep. Mauyag Papandayan Jr. told The Manila Times in an interview that he favored the resignation of del Rosario, saying he didnot understand why the Marawi rehabilitation was too slow.
“It was slower than the rehab of the Yolanda and Sendong affected areas but the money for the Marawi rehab was almost gone,” he said.
He added that TFBM had not yet released the P53,000 intended for the displaced families from the Marawi’s most affected area (MAA).
TFBM, however, announced recently that P73,000 for each displaced family in the MAA would be released in the first week of April with an additional P20,000 from the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
Former Technical Education and Skills Development Authority Director General and Lanao del Sur gubernatorial aspirant Guiling Mamondiong blamed TFBM for the plight of the Marawi IDPs.
Mamondiong saw the miserable conditions of the IDPs when he visited them at their tents in Sagonsongan Area last Friday.
He said he talked with del Rosario about this concern, saying, there were many vacant shelters, but the IDPs living in tents were not accommodate there.
Former Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao vice governor Haroun Alrashid Lucman Jr. also questioned how TFBM was handling the Marawi crisis from day one to date.
“How could we entrust the lives of our people to TFBM composed of people from Luzon and elsewhere who have not even set foot in the city before? It’s time a Maranao or one sympathetic to us takes his (del Rosario’s) place,” he added.
Earlier, Maranao leaders sought for the abolition of TFBM for failing to rebuild the city almost two years after it was devastated during the Marawi Siege.
Accusing the TFBM leadership of “incompetence,” they said they were pinning their hope on the newly established Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao to rehabilitate Marawi City.
They also chided del Rosario for denying that Marawi is a ghost city as published by The Washington Post, saying instead that the city was “alive and booming.”
He found an ally in the Marawi Sultanate League, which said the Marawi is not a “ghost town” and insisted that there was normalcy in most parts of the City.
In a statement, the league said only the 24 barangay (villages) in the most MAA remain isolated and unsafe because of unexploded ordnance buried there after the Maute siege.
But the evacuees demanded for del Rosario’s resignation.
The Suara Miyamagoyag, said to be a 16,000-strong group headed by Datu Meno Manabilang, sought the resignation of del Rosario, saying they felt their real situation did not reach the government.
