AS poll candidates try to win over voters this election campaign season, President Rodrigo Duterte reminded the public that they did not owe politicians anything for the programs and projects implemented by the government.
In his speech during a campaign rally in Malabon City on Tuesday night, Duterte stressed that the people kept the government running through their taxes.
“Remember, they do not function na gastos nila (on their own expense). Wala akong nakita na politiko na gumastos ng sariling pera para ibigay sa tao. Inyo ‘yan. Galing sa bulsa ninyo ‘yan (I’ve never seen a politician who used his own money and gave it to the people. That’s yours. That’s from your own pocket),” the President said.
“Wala kayong utang na loob sa mga politiko. Lahat ‘yan pati suweldo nila, pera ninyo. Kaya huwag kayong magsabi na ito si mayor ano, mag — galante. Anak ng jueteng, hindi ninyo alam kung saan ‘yan bumabawi (You don’t owe politicians anything. You even pay for their salaries. So don’t ever say this mayor is generous. You don’t know where he gets that),” he added.
The President made the remark as he again decried the red tape and corruption in government, saying that the Philippines now was “corrupt to the core.”
He also admitted having difficulty controlling corruption in the lower levels of government.
“Itong Cabinet member, Executive Department, Congress, Supreme Court, saka iyong opisina ko kaya ko yan (I can handle the Cabinet member, Executive Department, Congress Supreme Court, and my office),” Duterte said.
“Pero ‘yung sa baba, itong elected officials wala akong control, supervision lang ako na they do things the right way. Dito nagkakaroon ng corruption (But I have no control over the elected officials. My only role is supervision that they things the right way. This is where corruption happens),” he added.
The President then urged the public anew to report to his office corrupt acts of government officials and employees.
“‘Pag hiningan ka, pumunta ka ng Malacañan. P***** i**, sabihin mo sa akin doon (If they ask for money, you go to Malacañan. Son of b*tch, you inform me there),” Duterte said.
“Pakinggan kita. Tawagin ko ‘yung si director de p***. Sampalin ko ‘yan sa harap ninyo. Oo. O sipain ko (I will listen to you. I will call that son of b*tch director. I will slap him in front pf you. Yes. I will kick him),” he added.
Duterte has been trying to fulfill his campaign promise to clean the government, dismissing more than 30 alleged corrupt officials since he came to power in June 2016.
The President lamented corruption and red tape in government, saying the problem could pave way to a “failed government.”
The latest to leave among his appointees was former Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office general manager Alexander Balutan.
The Palace initially said he was fired “due to serious allegations of corruption,” but later backtracked, saying he resigned.
