TWO police officers will face administrative charges for allegedly escorting a local candidate in Marilao, Bulacan, according to a police report.

Police Corporal Gerlie Garcia and Patrolman Pat Jed Ceril Sevilla, both assigned at the Marilao Police Station, were allegedly caught acting as escorts to Ricardo Silvestre, a mayoral candidate of the town.

Garcia and Sevilla were seen with Silvestre when the candidate was campaigning at Nicanor V. Guillermo Convention Center on March 29 and at Bisita Heritage Home on March 31.

The police report indicated that the violation was properly documented, photographed, and video recorded.

This case also led to the relief of Lt. Col. Ricardo Pangan, Marilao chief of police.

Police Col. Romeo Caramat Jr., Philippine National Police Counterintelligence Task Force (PNP-CITF) head, said Garcia and Sevilla were not arrested but were told that they would face administrative charges.

“They were not arrested. They were just told that they will face administrative charges for violating the [President’s] and [PNP Chief Police General Oscar Albayalde’s] directive that PNP and AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines) must be non-partisan,” he told reporters in a text message.

Albayalde has reminded police officers not to engage in politics in the upcoming election, saying the PNP should always remain non-partisan.

He also said that police officers were not allowed to escort candidates unless approved by the Commission on Elections.
