SENATORIAL candidate Manuel “Mar” Roxas 2nd, his wife Korina Sanchez, and their twins arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on Monday.
Roxas, 61, said could not believe that he would be able to have children despite being a senior citizen.
“Hindi ako makapaniwala, senior citizen na ako, magkakaanak pa (I can’t imagine that despite being a senior citizen, I was able to have children),” Roxas told reporters at the NAIA.
The couple opted for gestational surrogacy because of their ages.
The Roxas twins, Pepe and Pilar, were born on February 12 in a Pittsburgh hospital in the United States.
Gestational surrogacy, Surrogate.com describes, is when the embryo is created via in vitro fertilization using the eggs and the sperm of the intended parents and donors, and is then transferred to the surrogate.
Sanchez, 54, a first-time mother, said that she and her husband don’t have yet a plan for christening.
The website estimated the cost of gestational surrogacy to range from $75,000 to $150,000 or from P3.9 million to P7.8 million. BENJIE L. VERGARA
