MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed Social Security Commission Chair Aurora Cruz Ignacio as the new president and chief executive officer of the Social Security System (SSS), replacing Emmanuel Dooc who resigned.
Duterte signed Ignacio’s appointment paper on March 28, a day before the appointment ban takes effect due to the election period. A copy Ignacio’s appointment paper was shared to the media on Monday.
Early last month, Dooc submitted his resignation letter to Duterte “upon the effectivity of the new SSS charter” as it “automatically ended” his term.

Under the helm of Dooc, the Republic Act No. 11199 or the Social Security Act of 2018 was enacted in a bid to ensure the long-term viability of the pension fund’s life.
Duterte signed RA 11199 last Feb. 7 which allows the SSC, the policy-making body of the pension fund, to adjust contribution rates and monthly salary credits of its members.
It also introduced the compulsory coverage of overseas Filipino workers with social security protection. /cbb
