A portion of the upper level of the Magallanes Interchange will be closed to vehicular traffic starting today, April 1, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority said.
The agency said the indefinite closure is part of its traffic management plan to address traffic problems and vehicular accidents in the area.
MMDA said the left turning ramp from Manila to Cubao, Quezon City of the Magallanes Interchange will be impassable to vehicles starting 6 a.m.
Data from the MMDA Traffic Engineering Center vehicular volume count showed that 7,722 vehicles are traversing the interchange from Manila to EDSA northbound. Meantime, 19,304 vehicles traverse from EDSA to Nichols (South Superhighway).
The vehicles, as per the agency, crisscross in that portion, causing traffic gridlock and accidents.
In 2017, the MMDA Road Safety Unit recorded 360 road crash incidents and 292 road crash incidents in 2018 on Magallanes Interchange.
Motorists are advised to take the Magallanes Loop/Magallanes Village. (Jel Santos)
