MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesperson Col. Bernard Banac on Tuesday urged dismissed policeman Eduardo Acierto to file a formal complaint on supposed threats to his life.

Acierto on Sunday surfaced and met with select reporters. He claimed having submitted to the PNP and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) reports on the alleged link to illegal drugs of Michael Yang, the  economic adviser of President Rodrigo Duterte, and another Chinese national identified as Allan Lim.

Acierto has been in hiding since October 2018, when he was implicated in the P11 billion worth of allegedly smuggled shabu shipped last July. He also claimed that there is a P15 million bounty on his head.

Banac said that anyone who needs protection should just come forward and report these threats to police.

“Kailangan muna talagang lumapit at magbigay ng pahayag (He really should come forward first and give his statement),” he said.

Asked whether the PNP will investigate Yang’s alleged link to drugs, Banac said Malacañang has already cleared Yang of alleged involvement in illegal drugs.

(There was a statement saying that Yang has no link to illegal drugs, otherwise there should have been an investigation and he was included in the list of personalities involved in illegal drugs. As of now, it appears that he is cleared of involvement in drugs.)

Asked further it the PNP was just basing its statement on Yang from the claim of the Palace, Banac said the statement of Malacañang and the PNP are one and the same.  /muf
