President Duterte is optimistic that the new Bangsamoro autonomous region would reflect the true sentiments of the Moro community in the South.
The President recognized that the law creating the new autonomous region would be implemented “in the days to come” following its recent ratification.
The inauguration of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, which replaces the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, is reportedly scheduled this week.
“We have achieved something already. We have ratified the Bangsamoro Organic Law. It’s going to be implementation in the days to come,” Duterte said during his visit to Cagayan de Oro City the other day.
“Truly, as we agreed with them. I hope that when it is implemented, initially it would reflect the true sentiments of our Moro brothers, mga Maguindanao,” he added.
Last February, the President called on the interim government of the Bangsamoro region to oversee the three-year transition period to the best of their ability and work for the interest of the people.
The President said the Bangsamoro Transition Authority led by Moro Islamic Liberation Front chair Al Haj Murad Ebrahim must also help promote the rule of law and good governance in the new autonomous region. Murad has been appointed to serve as interim chief minister of the Bangsamoro caretaker government until the new regional leaders are elected in 2022.
Dozens of representatives from the Moro and non-Moro groups, indigenous peoples, women, youth, settler communities, and traditional leaders, took their oath of office before the President during a Palace ceremony last month.
“Always work for the best interest and welfare, not only of the Bangsamoro people, but every Filipino who live in that region. I trust that you will oversee the transition period to the best of your abilities, especially in the decommissioning of firearms and former combatants,” he said. (Genalyn Kabiling)
