2 tectonic quakes jolt Surigao

BUTUAN CITY – Two mild tectonic earthquakes jolted Surigao provinces yesterday.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said a 3.4-magnitude earthquake was registered at 8:04 a.m.
The epicenter was plotted 23 kilometers northeast in the Pacific Ocean facing the town of San Isidro, Surigao del Norte.
The tremor had a depth of 14 kms, Philvocs said.
Hours earlier, a 2.1-magnitude tremor was recorded at 1:41 a.m., Phivolcs said.
The epicenter was traced 26 kms northeast of Lingig, Surigao del Sur province, it said.
The tremor had a depth of 34 kms, Phivolcs said.
No tsunami alert was raised by the agency.
The two tremors were all tectonic in origin and no damage or injury were reported by the agency.
Earthquakes are common in the Philippines which sits on the Pacific “Ring of Fire” where continental plates collide, causing frequent seismic and volcanic activities. (Mike Crismundo)
