Guns, bullets seized in Baseco

Several high-powered firearms and various ammunition were confiscated from four individuals during the implementation of search warrants in Baseco Compound, Port Area, Tondo, Manila yesterday.
Armed with search warrants issued by Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 106 Judge Angelene Mary Quimpo-Sale for violation of Republic Act No. 10591 or the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition, police arrested Rigor Espinosa, Edmund Cayanan, Roel Sarandin, and Jaime Rosini at around 1 a.m.
Joint elements of the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and Manila Police District served the first warrant to Espinosa at his residence on 2nd St., Muelle del Rio where they found one pistol, one magazine, and six ammunition for caliber .45 pistol.
They proceeded to the house of Cayanan, who is a barangay kagawad or councilman, on Block 17. Police seized one 12 gauge shotgun Armscor and five shotgun ammunition.
They went to Sarandin and Rosini, who are both living near Cayanan. A revolver and three live ammunition for caliber .38 revolver were recovered from each of them.
Search warrants were also enforced on Dante Baluya and Randy Escote, who are also neighbors on Block 17. However, authorities found no evidence.
But on the sidelines of their operation, police caught a group of men having a gambling session.
Gabby Ayob, one of the suspects, was in possession of an unidentified gun and illegal drugs.
According to PNP CIDG-Manila chief Police Chief Insp. Leandro Gutierrez, some of the apprehended persons have links to gun-for-hire group. (Ria Fernandez)
