Pope names new Lingayen auxiliary bishop

Pope Francis has appointed Fr. Fidelis Layog as the new auxiliary bishop of Lingayen-Dagupan.
Dagupan-born Layog will assist Archbishop Socrates Villegas in running the diocese.
Layog, 51, studied philosophy at the Mary Help of Christians College Seminary and theology at the Immaculate Conception School of Theology in Vigan City.
After he was ordained on April 29, 1996, Layog worked as prefect of discipline at the Mary Help of Christians High School Seminary in Dagupan City for four years.
He then pursued Biblical Theology studies at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas in Rome in 2003.
He was the parish priest of the Holy Family Parish in Sta. Barbara, Pangasinan from 2006 to 2009, and of St. Peter and Paul Parish in Calasiao, Pangasinan and Vicar Forane from 2011 to 2014. He was the director of Mapandan Catholic School from 2014-2016 and of St. Columban Institute of Domalandan in Lingayen, Pangasinan since 2017.
