Blog apologizes to man wrongly tagged as slaying suspect

MANILA, Philippines — A Facebook blog page has apologized to a man for mistakenly tagging him as a suspect in the killing of teenager Christine Lee Silawan in Lapu-Lapu City without verifying the information first, saying that it had only copied and pasted its post from another source.
In a conversation posted on Saturday by the Jerome Nelson Funcion on Facebook, screenshots showed his conversation with the blog page on a messaging application.
“Ang [K]amaong [A]poy blog ay humihingi ng paumanhin tungkol sa post [kay] Jerome Nelson Funcion na mukha mo ang nakalagay sa naturang post na may connection sa pagkamatay ni Christine Silawan,” the message of the blog page read.
“Copy paste lang ng naturang admin ang info na yun. Sa ngayon sinisikap ng [K]amaong [A]poy blog na hanapin ang original post para mai-report namin sa inyo ang naturang post,” it added.
Funcion then replied, saying that he was hoping that the handlers of the page could find where the post originally came from.
Earlier, Funcion sought the help of the Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) of the Philippine National Police (PNP) for the investigation of the matter and for him to clear his name.

The blog page then assured him that they would trace the original post and said that they would report it to Funcion once they do.
The blog page also said that a page administrator, that the original one was shared two days ago, uploaded the said post.
Further, the blog page said that the page administrator had been suspended because of the “irresponsible” post.
However, Chief Insp. Artemio Cino, ACG spokesperson, told INQUIRER.net the were still looking into the case, and based on their initial evaluation, the post did not look like it was from another one.
But he noted that the case would still undergo further investigation.
“Sa pag-analyze natin nung post, kung makikita natin, hindi naman siya shared post. Hindi naman siya copy-paste eh. Lumalabas kasi dun sa post na original na post yun. I mean sila talaga yung source. Based sa initial evaluation namin to ’no,” Cinco said.
“Pero, siyempre magko-conduct kami ng online investigation, dun malalaman natin kung ano talaga yung source nung post na yon. Kung saan ang source or sino ang source,” he added.
Cinco also explained that they would seek help from Facebook and see if it would be possible to know the names behind the blog page in question.
“First, makikipag-coordinate kami sa Facebook, ichecheck namin kung possible na makatulong sila samin para ma-trace kung sino yung administrator or in-control ng Facebook page na iyon,” he said. /atm
