‘Southeast Asia’s longest suspension bridge’ opens in Indonesia

JAKARTA — Visitors to West Java may want to plan a visit to a suspension bridge said to be the longest of its kind in Southeast Asia
Located at Situ Gunung Tourist Park, which is part of Mount Gede Pangrango National Park, the bridge is 243 meters long, 1.2 meters wide and 107 meters high.
Named Situ Gunung Suspension Bridge, the 80-ton bridge made of merbau wood was officially opened by Coordinating Maritime Affairs Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan on March 9. It was built by PT Fontis Aqua Vivam in collaboration with the national park, with the project starting in May 2017.
Open to the public, the bridge is accessible from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and offers breathtaking views of the lush forest.
According to kompas.com, the ticket price starts from Rp 50,000 (US$3.50) per person and visitors will need to walk around 600 meters to reach the entrance gate.
The entrance ticket includes access to Lake Situ Gunung as well.
People who wish to cross the bridge are required to wear a safety belt provided at the entrance gate. Equipped with a hook, the belt can be attached to the handrail in case of turbulence. A staff member is on standby in the middle area to help people cross the bridge.
After visiting the suspension bridge, visitors can continue their journey to the Curug Sawer (Sawer Waterfall), which is 1 kilometer away, or explore the area’s camping ground and amphitheater.
