SC temporarily stops admission test for aspiring law students–source

MANILA, Philippines—The Supreme Court temporarily stopped the Legal Education Board (LEB) from implementing the Philippine Law School Admission Test (Philsat) as a requirement for students’ admission in law schools nationwide.
A source said the resolution issuing the temporary restraining order may be released today, March 16 or on Monday.
Under LEB’s Memorandum No. 7 issued in 2016, school year 2017-2018 was the pilot year for Philsat. During the pilot test, law schools are still allowed to enroll students who took the examinations but did not pass the tests.
The memorandum issued in 2016 provided for mechanisms to a day’s aptitude test to gauge the academic potentials of an examinee who wants to enroll in law schools.
Philsat examinations have been conducted by LEB in April 2017, September 2017, April 2018, and September 2018.
Petitons were filed questioning the constitutionality of Republic Act 7662, the Legal Education Reform Act, which became the basis for the issuance of LEB Memorandum Order No. 7 for the conduct of Philsat.
The high court earlier conducted an oral argument on the matter. /jpv
