Duterte orders probe into student slay in Cebu

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte ordered an investigation into the murder of a high school student in Cebu City, Malacanang said on Thursday.
Christine Silawan, 16, a Grade 9 student in Cebu, was found with multiple stab wounds on her body and her face peeled off on Monday.
She was believed to have been raped as she was found half-naked.
In a press briefing, Palace spokesman Salvador Panelo echoed Duterte who said that a drug addict was behind the killing.
“Well, who does that? The face was skinned. My goodness,” he said.
In a speech during the campaign rally of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino – Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) in Cauayan City, Isabela on Wednesday evening, Duterte cursed out rapists as he underscored anew the need to have law and order in the country.
“A five year old was raped by a priest. Yesterday, [a woman] was killed and her face was peeled off, while others, four months old, were raped. Four months old, they were killed. You sons of b—es, you go to hell now, idiots,” Duterte said.
He also asked the human rights groups to dig into the rape cases and “find his revulsion.”
“Now, look. Children are being raped. I do not like that, I curse people out, people say it’s bad to listen to, I am what I am. Deal with it,” he said.
The bounty for any information that will lead to the capture of Silawan’s killers was raised to P1.8 million.
Supt. Benjamin Lara, director of the Philippine National Police Crime Laboratory in Central Visayas, was quoted by reports as saying that Silawan’s tongue, trachea and esophagus were missing.
In Wednesday’s speech, Duterte asked police to come after the suspects.
“Police said, they are part of a cult. I told them, son of a b—h, cults? You find them, because… they skinned the [girl.] I told them, drugs,” he said.
Panelo said that a drug addict may do such a heinous and systematic crime if the suspect was a medical practitioner or student. RALPH EDWIN U. VILLANUEVA
