A woman’s attempt to kidnap a five-year-old girl on Monday night in Tondo, Manila, was foiled by a barangay official.
The suspect was identified as Sally Agliam Casiano, 40, a resident of Talavera, Nueva Ecija, police said.
Initial report revealed that the victim was walking with her mother along Solis Street corner Jose Abad Santos at about 7:15 p.m. on Mar. 11 when the suspect suddenly grabbed her.
The suspect claimed that the girl was her niece.
Fortunately, councilor Dolores de Guzman of Barangay 215, witnessed the incident and immediately helped the mother and child.
The suspect was arrested and turned over to Manila Police District (MPD) Station 7 for proper disposition.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Gene Licud, MPD Station 7 commander, said they are looking into the background of the suspect to determine if she is affiliated to the syndicate responsible for the recent abductions of children.
The official said they have increased police visibility in their area and enhanced coordination with the barangays for the safety of minors. (Ria Fernandez)
