OPERATIVES of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) arrested an alleged member of the terrorist Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) in a Muslim community in Taguig City.

NBI Diretor Dante Gierran on Monday identified the suspect as Salahim Dawani a.k.a. Abu Moadz, who was arrested by virtue of a warrant of arrest issued by the Regional Trial Court of Basilan for multiple counts of kidnapping and serious illegal detention.

The warrant was issued in connection with the kidnapping of several workers at the Golden Harvest Plantation in Tairan, Lantawan, Basilan by the ASG in 2001.

The NBI said two witnesses positively identified Dawani as among the ASG members who abducted them and torched the plantation chapel and residence of the plantation manager

Witnesses said the suspect was also among those who decapitated plantation workers Primitivo Falcasantos and Crisanto Suela and served as close-in guard of the rest of the abducted  workers. WILLIAM B DEPASUPIL
