War veteran yields firearm in Davao del Sur

MALALAG, Davao del Sur — A 91-year old man surrendered his firearm after the local police intensified the implementation of ‘Oplan Katok’ (Oplan Knock) in relation to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban, around 1:30 pm. Sunday.
Senior Supt. Alan Manibog, police provincial director, on Monday, said Rogelio Agliam Pascua, a resident of Purok 1, Barangay Ibo, was a veteran of World War II, yielded a caliber 9-mm pistol, with two magazines and eight live ammunition
He said the firearm was in the Firearms and Explosive Ordnance master list of registered firearms in the municipality.
The measure aims to ensure that all unlicensed firearms are properly monitored and kept from being used in crimes and illegal activities, especially with the midterm elections approaching, said Manibog.
He said licensed firearms are covered in the election gun ban and must not be brought anywhere unless the owners have secured a gun ban exemption from the Comelec.
Manibog also ordered the local police to apprehend all violators after some shooting incidents happened in Davao del Sur with the setting up of Comelec checkpoints. Orlando B. Dinoy/lzb
